‘This photo was probably taken between 1908-1910 and most probably at the Rutherglen Burgh School.  My father, James Wilson Hamilton, is 3rd from the left in the back row.  I am fairly sure that he went on to Stonelaw School in Melrose Avenue and was Dux in 1915. Certainly a ‘James W. Hamilton’ appears on the Dux Honours Board for that year.
He and the family emigrated to New Zealand about 1915 settling in Geraldine, South Canterbury in the South Island.  His father (my grandfather), William John Hamilton, was a spindlemaker.  His mother was Mary Wilson. The family stayed at various addresses in Rutherglen before leaving for New Zealand.’
